Tide & Trade

Tide & Trade

Multi-generational American families still run the coast. This series honors them, one working waterfront at a time.

About the Collection

The waterfront is a family business.

Somewhere between the interstate and the water there is a small red-painted crab shack. A weathered sign says STEAMED CRABS in hand-painted letters. A grandmother works the counter. A grandson runs the boat. A daughter mans the kitchen. Nobody's family made a fortune on this. Everyone's family made a life.

Tide & Trade is our tribute to those places. Not idealized. Not stylized as heritage marketing. Rendered as documentary art — the barn red is the barn red, the salt-bleached white is the salt-bleached white, the tan marsh grass is what it looks like in late October, the light is the light that hits Fortescue and Cambridge and Reedville and Apalachicola every single day.

The scenes in this collection are drawn from real places. Real family businesses. Real working watermen. Some of them will still be there when your kids are grown. Some of them will not. Either way, they were here.

Where the tide comes in, the trade continues.
